M193-1 Product summary
It is possible to train in case observation of four typical patterns in sacral region and greater trochanter: “Mild bed sore: edema and low echo area”, “Moderate bed sore: edema and abscess”, “Severe bed sore: edema and cobblestone-like abscess”, and “Pouch-forming bed sore”.

This model recreates the structure of the fat layer
in the gluteal area where bed sores can easily occur.

Recommendation for Training Phantom for Ultrasound Observation of Tissue Damage
Hiromi Sanada, Professor, Department of Health Science and Nursing, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, Gerontological Nursing/Wound Nursing
The Sakamoto model uses the know-how of ultrasound diagnosis that we have cultivated to detect deep tissue damage early and prevent it from progressing.
Creating a texture that feels as if it were touching human skin and a feel that feels as if it were being performed in a clinical setting. The world’s first deep tissue injury training phantom has been completed by combining technology.
Although the prevalence of bed sores in Japan has certainly decreased, the number of bed sores is expected to increase further due to the rapid increase in the elderly population. Particularly in Japan, which is promoting a community-based comprehensive care system, it will become increasingly important for nurses who are engaged in home nursing or specialized care activities to be able to prevent deep tissue injuries (DTI) such as bed sores which are not visible to the naked eye by carrying out early detection.
To achieve this, it is necessary to thoroughly educate students on how to operate ultrasound equipment, understand ultrasound images of bed sores, and especially understand deep tissue damage. We feel that this training phantom is indispensable for this education.
Training on operating ultrasound equipment using normal models, and four typical patterns in the sacral region and greater trochanter region where deep tissue damage is particularly likely to occur – disappearance of superficial fascia, hypoechoic area, abscess, and paving stone. You can practice using a type of abscess to deepen your understanding of ultrasound scanning and deep tissue damage. Compared to complex ultrasound images of the human body, it is easy to understand and focuses on learning about deep tissue damage. Also, since the 5 blocks of the lower body can be replaced, it is not heavy and can be easily handled.
Finally, we hope that many medical professionals involved in the nursing care and treatment of bed sores will learn about ultrasound manipulation using this training phantom.
